Learchild Roman fort (Edlingham)
The Roman fort of ALAVNA lies close to the Devil's Causeway Roman road. Little is visible today other than a slight swelling of the ground, but early aerial photographs show the fort's ditches. More information about the fort has been discovered by excavation of the site. This showed there were two phases, the first fort measured at least 250 feet by 130ft and second was considerably larger measuring at least 760 feet by 250 feet. Some sherds of second century pottery were found in the later fort. This is a Scheduled Monument protected by law.
