Battle Bridge (Edlingham)
(Name at NU 11801218). Probable site of Battle. Between Saxons and Danes about AD 875. (1)
(Area centred NU 118121). (a). The site of an old battlefield; here, according to tradition, a conflict took place about the year 875 between the Saxons of Whittingham Vale and a band of Danes who had pushed their way up the Aln from the coast, with the result that the former were defeated (b). (2)
