Possible Iron Age enclosure near the Swarland Burn, Canada Farm (Longframlington)

[NU 13920394] Longframlington. Fold Field. Site of an earthwork at Lat 55 deg 19' 45" N, Long 1 deg 46' 50" W. (1)

In the fold field, belonging to Canada was a camp or stronghold. It stood on an elevated spot south of the brook and close to the north side of the road from Framlington to Newton-on-the-Moor and Shield Dykes, and exactly opposite to the lane from Newton Moor House. The area is ploughed down and nothing is now visible. (2)

NU 13890395. The situation is the summit of a gentle rise about 415ft above sea level. There is an extensive view in all directions.
The pasture field concerned is ridge and furrow ploughed. At the highest point is a slight depression, roughly circular in shape and with a diameter of approx 30m. This is evidently the remains of the earthwork referred to by authority (2) but the traces are insufficient to determine either purpose or date.
The Swarland Burn to the north is the nearest water supply. (3)

A slight depression too vague for interpretation - nothing visible on RAF aerial photographs. (4)
