Neolithic stone axe head found at Longframlington (Longframlington)

[Marginal] A polished stone axe of dolerite, 3-1/4 inches long, from Long Framlington. Loaned to the Society of Antiquaries, Newcastle by Mr M Robson of Swarland, per Mr W P Hedley. (1)

An axe of dolerite (whinstone) found in a ploughed field at Long Framlington in 1926. The axe is 3 inches long, 2-1/4 inches wide at the cutting end and 1 inch wide at the other end. It has been
originally triangular but flakes have been taken off both sides to form a neck, probably for convenience in securing a shaft. The surface of the later flaking is oxidised to the same extent as the remainder of the axe, showing that the recutting is of ancient date. (2)

Case 2. 1932.79 "Stone axehead, Longframlington, 1926. Lent by Mr A R Robson, 1932." (3)

[NZ 13350087] Found in the field north of the junction of the Wooler - Morpeth and Longframlington - Felton roads. [Approximate site indicated to investigator]. (4)
