Scremerston Colliery (Ancroft)
Coal may have been mined at Scremerston since the 17th century. However, the remains still visible at Scremerston Colliery only date from the mid-19th century. A number of pit buildings can still be seen, including the engine house and the water tower. The nearby pit heap were first planted with trees in 1886, and is an early example of reclaiming such a pit heap. The remaining buildings are Grade II listed structures protected by law.
