Cheswick Deserted Village (Ancroft)
Traces of the deserted village of Cheswick can be seen at this site. The site of the village itself has been levelled. However, its former location is defined by the remains of medieval ploughing, known as ridge and furrow, to the north, east and south. It was a thriving village in the medieval period. It only began to decline in the 18th and early 19th centuries. New farms were founded away from the village, causing many of the inhabitants to move away.
