Hetton (Tillside)

NU 040334 Deserted medieval village at Hetton. (Nothing visible on available aerial photographs (RAF 1947)). (1)

Hetton now consists of widely dispersed farmsteads and any 'village' was probably non-nucleated. (2)

Hetton deserted medieval village. Documentary references: 1242, 1296, 1377, 1580. Small area of earthworks at NU 040334. Ridge and furrow beyond. (3)

Centred at NU 0390 3350 is a tract of ridge and furrow cultivation associated with Hetton deserted mediaeval village. (4)
