Horton Moor unenclosed settlement (Tillside)
(A - NU01573188: B- NU0148319) Two groups of unenclosed huts, described as enclosures on the plan. A-55 34' 50" N, 1 58' 30" W: B - 55 34' 47" N, 1 58' 35" W. (1)
'A' NU01593187. Upon a south-east facing slope of bracken covered hill side (gradient 1:30), a group of circular huts, and enclosure.
A hut circle of 10m diam, of earth and stone banks, very slight, 1m wide, 0.1m maximum height, with an enclosure to the south-east of 13m diameter, bounded by a bank of earth and large stone. To the south-west, a small hut circle of 6m diameter, of earth and stone banks, very slight, 0.8m wide, 0.1m maximum height. Both hut circles have entrances into the enclosure, which has a 2m wide entrance on the south-east side.
'B' NU01493178. Upon a south-east facing bracken covered slope, (gradient 1:10), two adjacent enclosures, probably a hut circle and enclosure. The smaller of 8m diameter, of earth and stones bank, 1m wide, 0.1m maximum height, has an entrance on the south-east side to the larger circle of 11m diameter, of earth and large stones, which has an entrance marked by a large stone set across the end of the bank, on the south side.
The nearest water supply is a stream 200m to the north. There is no evidence for dating these sites. (2)
'A' NU01593187. Generally as described by F1. but the banks are generally 2.3m wide with a maximum height of c.0.3m.
'B' NU01503178. Two co-joined hut circles c.9m and 11m in diameter respectively. The banks are generally 2m wide with maximum height of c.0.3m. A short curved bank on the outside of the larger circle, at the north side of its entrance suggests a possible third circle abutting the larger on its south side. Both sites obscured by bracken and snow. Surveyed at 1/2500. (3)

Free-standing huts that have no close parallel at the moment. Two inscribed stones, one cup-marked, and the other ring-marked were noted in the ruined walls during resurvey. (5)
As described by F2 but published survey (25 inch) revised to depict banks by rubble symbol. A small, loose, cup-marked stone in group 'B' is presumably the one to which Jobey refers, but the ring marked one was not identified. (6)

Cup marked and cup and ring marked stones may be those which are now situated in the garden at West Horton Farm (NU 0270030850). (7)
