Buckton Moor North camp (Kyloe)
[NU06493835] Earthwork. (1)
A roughly circular enclosure with multiple ramparts. (2)
Bivallate native fort in poor condition. Modern cottage [Herd's House] inside. (3)
A partly ploughed-down enclosure situated on a slight rise. It is formed by an earthen bank 10m wide and 1.5m high, where best preserved, with traces of an outer ditch to the south and west, and a simple entrance in the south-east. An additional bank, 9m wide and 1m high, is apparent in the south-west quadrant only.
There are no visible internal remains other than those of the cottage previously noted. The non-defensive situation precludes a fort, but the form, and strength of the work suggest an Iron Age, and a possible association with the enclosure to the south-east [NU 03 NE 2]. Published survey (25 inch) revised. (4)
Condition unchanged. (5)
Scheduled. (6)
