Bewick Hill is crowned by an unusual hillfort. There are two small enclosures next to each other. They are semi-circular in shape, with their open sides against a steep cliff edge. A further larger rampart then surrounds these enclosures. Opposite the junction of the two forts are traces of a further ditch and bank. The west fort contains several hut circles and a large entrance 3m wide. The east fort contains a series of three low walls in the north-west quarter. It is thought that this hillfort belongs to the Iron Age, though the stone huts may date to the Roman period. This is a Scheduled Monument protected by law.
