Byre and dovecote at Lilburn Tower (Tillside)

Byre and dovecote 200 yards north of Lilburn Tower [NU 02 NW 77], Grade II. Originally a byre. Early 19th century. Raised castellated centre and pyramidal roof. Stone pierced pigeon holes in semi-circular recess.

Formerly byre and dovecote, now pheasantry. Early C19. Dressed stone. 3 bays with raised castellated centre with pyramical roof. Stone pierced pigeon holes in semicircular recess. Left and
right segmental arches to former byres now with double doors. Gabled roof with kneelers. (1)

Fourteen holes in two silled rows. Now pheasantry. (2)

Lilburn is a Tudor style country house with shaped gables and a symmetrical three bay front designed by John Dobson and built between 1828-43. Grade 2*. Byre grade II (3b-c)
