Bronze Age burials near Lilburn Tower Farm (Tillside)

[NU 01902475 geographical co-ords.] A cist 2ft 9ins x 2ft 5ins containing burnt bones, charcoal, and 76 fragments of a single food vessel was ploughed up in the field immediately west of Lilburn Tower Farm, on May 14th 1954, by Mr John Robertson.
A day or two later, about 45yds to the east [NU 01932474] he found an area about the same dimensions as the above cist, but without walls, which yielded 16 beaker fragments; part of a food vessel of Childe's Type A, a few fragments of an incense cup; and a single sherd, possibly of a cinerary urn; together with charcoal, and a number of flints.
The finds are now in the Museum of Antiquities, Newcastle. (1)(2)

Mr Robertson has now left the district, and could not be contacted for precise siting details. There are no visible remains of the cist, and no evidence of any covering mounds. (3)
