Ros Castle cup marked stones (Tillside)
Ros Castle (H00568-72). Five rock outcrops below Ros Castle with mainly cup marked motifs. (1)
NU 07992508. On the flat summit of rock-outcrop part of which has been quarried away are at least 7 cup marks, one of which is surrounded by the abraded remains of a ring. Beckensall (1a) notes three carvings on outcrop at the base of the hill as it rises from the road near the park wall. This topographical description agrees with that of the cup and ring marked rock. (2a-b)

The next prominent viewpoint is Ros Castle, a prehistoric enclosure that commands enormously wide views. Rock art here has not been found at the highest point, but on the slope leading up to it from the Hepburn road. The position must say something of its significance, in this case marking a path.
The motifs are simple, which again may mean something, such as being in a subsidiary role it some now-destroyed monument or large rock panel. All the markings are on an outcrop. (2c)
