Chillingham Park and Gardens (Tillside)
Enclosed formal garden 0.6ha; landscaped pleasure grounds c.9ha c.1753; park c.600ha at Chillingham Castle. Italian garden c.1820, site of previous jousting grounds. Lawn on south front c.1753 banked up over former ground floor level, over a tunnel. Wooded grounds; Alpine garden; American garden; lime avenue to West Lodge, 450m long, continues to Newton Bridge for 650m. Enclosed park of open parkland, extending to craggy hills and heath to the east. Remnants of Caledonian Forest. Walled gardens c.2.4ha. Park noted for herd of wild cattle. (1)

The grounds were laid out by Sir Jeffrey Wyatville in 1828. (3)
The gardens were mainly laid out c.1827-8 by Wyatville, with long avenues of trees and castellated walls and terracing. A parterre lies to the west of the house. The Park lies to the east and south and is 2430ha in extent. It was emparked in the 13th century. Within the enclosing wall the park retains the character of a medieval landscape. (4)
