Chillingham former medieval village (Tillside)

A settlement is known at Chillingham from the 13th century when eleven taxpayers were recorded. The land was emparked in the early 17th century, but it not stated whether the village was entirely cleared away. A two-row village is shown to the west of the church on an 18th century map. In the early 19th century the village was replanned and a single row of estate cottages, but these were removed later that century.
