Enclosure (Thirlwall)

The earthwork remains of banks and ditches centred at NY 6485 6583 which may be the remains of a Medieval or Post Medieval settlement, but may be earlier in date. The earthworks are partly overlain by post medieval narrow ridge and furrow. These were mapped from historical aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hadrian's Wall NMP project. (1a)

The east-west hollow way has been reinterpreted from 2011 Environment Agency lidar as the possible north face of a large Roman camp (UID 1581202), though it may have subsequently been reused as a hollow way. (1b)

General association with HER 24531 (Roman military camp). (1)
