Medieval and post medieval enclosure (West Allen)

Medieval and post medieval enclosure is visible as earthworks on air photographs, centred at NY 7984 4958. The curvilinear enclosure has a substantial internal bank and outer ditch. It lies adjacent to farm buildings at High Wolfcleugh and may be associated with an earlier farmstead at this location, but the functional of this enclosure is uncertain. Traces of post medieval extraction and narrow ridge and furrow lie within the enclosure (see UID 1531610 & 1531614). It still extant on the latest 2002 vertical photography. (1a)
