Enclosure west of Chatton (Tillside)
This is the site of a circular, ditched enclosure. It stands upon a slight rise in the ground, and the land falls away gently on all sides. Archaeologists excavated the site in 1980s. They found that a wooden palisade or fence had once surrounded the site. Inside the site a number of post holes and a furnace was found. Artefacts found at the site show that the settlement was used from the Neolithic period to the Roman period. This is a Scheduled Monument protected by law.
