Neolithic cup and ring marked stones at Fowberry Enclosure, Lilburn (Tillside)
(NU02902611) A large sandstone block, earth-fast, measuring 11ft by by 7ft, probably in situ. It stands 1/3 mile south-east of Trickley, 25-30yds south of the road, and nearly opposite the south-west corner of Newtown Moor. The rock bears 'not many sculpturings', which include circles and cups. (1)
'Now much weathered and partly quarried away'. (2)
A large sandstone boulder (probably an erratic), upon south-east facing slope of pastureland, very prominent.
The boulder is 2.9m x 2.5m in size, and 0.6m maximum height above ground level, but well rooted in the ground. It has been quarried away upon the north and south sides.
There are three cups and single ring markings, and also five or six cup marks. The rings vary in diameter from 0.2m to 0.3m. (3)
The rock is much weathered and only one cup and ring mark is now visible. Surveyed (1:2500) at NU02882611. (4)
