Possible Site of a Tower (Alnham)
Prendwick was raided by the Scots in 1533 and 1543. By way of defence Thomas Alder built a little tower which is mentioned in 1541 and 1584 but has now completely disappeared. (1)
The present buildings at Prendwick contain no traces of antiquity, and the owner had no knowledge of the former existence of a tower there. The site of the tower could not be identified and local enquiries revealed no significant field names. (2)
Not dealt with by RCHME as a part of the SE Cheviots Project. (3a)
The tower was built by George Aldye (or Alder) between 1535-40 and terminally damaged in a raid in force by the Scots in 1587. Its location is unknown. (3b-c)
