Percy's Leap (Cheviotside)

Two stones 30 feet apart in a walled enclosure half a mile north of Percy's Cross near Hedgeley, on the west side of the Wooler road. One of the stones is apparently in its natural position. The other, recumbent, 4 feet long, shows no sign of grooving by weather; it is doubtful if it can be classed as a monolith. 'Two ancient monoliths near the field of battle called Percy's leap'. (2)
NU 0496 1980 and NU 0496 1981. Two large boulders, 8 metres apart which appear to be natural erratics There is no evidence of either stone having been erected.
Presumably the name 'Percy's Leap' is associated with the death of Sir Ralph Percy in the battle of Hedgeley Moor (1464). (3)
