Tosson lime kiln (Whitton and Tosson)

Well-built lime kiln built into the ramp of quarry spoil. Three draw arches, round-headed with one eye per arch (brick). One pot partially filled. Constructed of sandstone with high class masonry. (1)

A well-built lime kiln of 1888 designed by George Reavell of Alnwick. The kiln is built into an earthen ramp formed by spoil from the adjacent quarry. The kiln, which is of well-coursed and dressed sandstone masonry, consists of three round headed draw arches, each with a single eye drawing from a single brick-lined pot. Moderately well-preserved. (2)

Built of rock-faced stone and brick. Large canted screen with three round arches. Brick drawing eyes and a brick-lined pot. More substantial than most purely local kilns and in good condition. (Grundy Grade III). (3)
