South Ord pit circle (Ord)
Pit circle visible on aerial photographs as cropmark. (1)(2)
Part of a wider group of cropmarks comprising: three prehistoric pit alignments and ditches, a possible early medieval grubenhaus and ditches and a pit of uncertain date are visible as cropmarks on air photographs centred at NT 9825 5012. Two of the pit alignments are linear and run north-west south-east. The third, at NT 9820 5007, is curvilinear in form. The feature is bisected by a modern field boundary so the feature may represent one half of a complete circuit of pits. To the west are a series of linear ditches and two pits. At least one of these, at NT 9818 5006, may be a grubenhaus. (See also HER 2542 and 2543). (3a-b)
