Duddo was a member of the Bishop of Durham's estate of Norhamshire. 1560/1: eight husbandlands; the survey records a hamlet called Greenlaw Walls in the south part of the township. Early 18th century: 40 houses in Duddo village.
No earthworks of the former village (NT 937426) and the area by the tower has been ploughed up. An old barn is said to have stood near the remains of the tower until c.1850. (3)
