Farm buildings at Akeld Steads (Akeld)

There are a series of farm buildings north-west of Akeld Steads Farm. They include a range of animal shelter sheds with a two storey central section with an arch and a granary above it. Three single-storey shelter sheds project from this range. One ends in a hen house with a dovecote above. There is also a two-storey stable and a two storey barn with an attached granary. They were all built in the late 18th or early 19th century. This was a period of great agricultural wealth in Britain. Farmers were able to spend money on new buildings work to improve their farms. There was much building in Akeld in this period.
