Possible souterrain at Milfield (Milfield)
[NT 92813497] A large hollow, contained the remains of a 'building' of dry stone walling, 18ft long, 8ft wide, and 6ft high with a doorway in the east angle. Inside were found some teeth and a bone fragment. (1)
NT 92783492 A hollow, approximately 23m in diameter and 2.1m deep answers the above description but is now under plough and is stone-free. (2)
The above remains have been classified by Jobey as a Souterrain. He suggests a date of the late second century, following the abandonment of the Antonine frontier, for this feature. (3)

Most southerly example of a souterrain in the east is near Milfield. (5)
