Three round cairns on Dod Hill (Cheviotside)

On the summit of Dod Hill are three Bronze Age round cairns. They lie in a row on an east-west alignment and have wide views from the hilltop in all directions. The largest cairn is 12m in diameter and has been partly robbed to form a walker's cairn. (1)

Site visited in the course of a Higher Level Stewardship Farm Environment Plan, where site noted in a good condition. (3)

NY 9887 2087. One of a group of three Bronze Age round cairns situated on the summit of Dod Hill. The three cairns lie in a row, aligned east-west. The easternmost cairn is the largest, located in a prominent position, on the edge of the summit. The stone-built cairn measures 12 metres in diameter and stands to a maximum of 0.4 metres high. The western side of the cairn has been partially disturbed by a walkers' cairn, and a large, flat stone, interpreted as the capstone of a cist, has been exposed. Scheduled. (4a)

NY 9884 2087. One of a group of Bronze Age round cairns situated on the summit of Dod Hill. The cairns lie in a row, aligned east-west. The central cairn in the row lies 20 metres west of the easternmost cairn and measures 3.5 metres in diameter and stands to a maximum height of 0.3 metres. It retains traces of a surrounding kerb. Scheduled. (4a)

NY 9879 2087. One of a group of three Bronze Age round cairns situated on the summit of Dod Hill. The cairns lie in a row, aligned east-west. The westernmost cairn lies 50 metres west of the central cairn, measures 4 metres in diameter and stands up to 0.3 metres high. Scheduled. (4a)
