Unenclosed settlement and field system south-west of Brands Hill (Cheviotside)

(NT 973234) Some 300m to the north of the enclosure (NT 92 SE 17) is an area of extensive stone clearance represented by scattered cairns and banks. Amongst these are the slight remains of at least five unenclosed round house platforms, and a badly robbed (burial?) cairn further to the south west. The western edge of this complex is defined by two long clearance banks, one of which may be associated with a small house platform at its southern extremity. Surveyed at 1:12,450.
Two long clearance banks each c.300m in length are located to the north-west and west of the old sheepfold at NT 97342321. In the north part of the area, east and west of the probable burial cairn at NT 97332350 are c.40 clearance cairns and scattered banking. There are additional clearance cairns to the north and west of this area.
NT 97452353. An incomplete embanked enclosure, probably representing a field plot associated with the remains of four unenclosed houses, 7m-11m diameter. There is an additional unenclosed house 50m to the east, 8m diameter. To the west, north and east of the field plot are scattered cairns and fragments of banking (NT 92 SE 63). (1)
