Roman settlement north-west of Long Crags (Earle)

NT 95492168. A small irregular shaped Romano-British homestead found during field inspection. Situated on a natural terrace on a general north/north-west slope, the work is sheltered by a high wall of outcropping rock which forms its west side. The other sides were bounded by a stony bank which survives in fragmentary form only, and no entrance is apparent. On the uphill, south side, abutting the enclosing bank internally, are two contiguous, stone-founded hut-circles, each with walls 2m wide, internal diameters of 3.5m and north-east facing entrances. Surveyed at 6 inch scale with enlargement at 1:2500. (1)

No change since report of 25/4/72. Surveyed at 1:10,000 on MSD. (2)

NT 955217. Long Crags 2, possible unenclosed settlement. (3)
