Long Crags prehistoric settlement (Earle)
NT 957213. Six circles, one with a semi-circular annexe were located in the lee of the south-east end of Long Crags. Consisting of stony banks, 1m to 2m wide and 0.4m high, and varying in diameter from 4m to 7m, all, except one, have obvious east facing entrances, and are clearly entrances and are clearly unenclosed hut circles of the type usually associated with Romano-British settlement. Surveyed at 6 inch scale. (1)
Six circular stone-walled huts as described by F1 and similar to those at Tathey Crags (NT 92 SE 50). (2)
NT 957214: Six unenclosed round stone houses at Long Crags. Surveyed at 1:500. (3)
NT 957214. Long Crags 1, unenclosed settlement. [Plan]. (4)
Scheduled. (5)
At least two of the features are questionable as hut circles and it is suggested that they might be ring cairns. There is a chronological relationship between two of the features, demonstrating that there is more than one phase of activity on the site. Sketch surveyed at approximately 1:750. (6a)
