Target operator bunker, cable trenching and three target pits north of Hopehead (Otterburn)
The bunker is one of a group of five built on the Otterburn Army Training Estate under provision of the Thurlow Plan from 1962 to 1964. It includes the remains of a target operator bunker, three target pits, and distribution box and associated cable trenches. Inside the bunker was a system of cables and levers which military personnel operated manually to raise and lower three remote targets across the firing area. The cables led from the bunker and were fed to each of the three targets, up to 62m away. Each target pit contains the metal remains of the target mechanism. This is a Scheduled Monument protected by law.
