Halton Shields (Whittington)

The earliest reference to a permanent settlement at this site comes from a survey of 1524. Twelve houses were recorded here in 1801.In the 19th century, there were two rows of facing buildings. The northern row was built on the line of Hadrian's Wall. The oldest stone buildings seem to be the farmhouse and its outbuildings.
