Bronze Age burials (Cramlington)
Three British urns were found whilst baring the rock at Plessey Quarry (NZ 24097930) in 1892; now (1901) in the possession Viscount Ridley at Blagdon Hall. The urns measured 11ins, 12-1/2ins and 10ins respectively, having top diameters of 9ins, 9-1/2ins and 8ins (no mention of contents). (1)
Plessey Quarry, now disused, is situated on the high ground overlooking the River Blyth. No surface finds were made. No further information was discovered which would help identify these urns or the circumstances of their discovery. Mr J S Edwards, Estate Surveyor, Blagdon Hall, says that the urns were broken up many years ago. (2)
(Subsequently published) Three Urns found A.D.1892. (3)
