Catheugh Pill Box (Thirston)

NZ 152 993. Catheugh pill box.This pillbox was part of the Coquet Stop Line which extended from Amble to the headwaters of the river Coquet. Any attack was expected from the north as pillboxes were built at strategic points on the south side of the river. The best preserved portion of the stop line is between Felton and Hepple. (1)

Pill box at NZ 152 993, Grade II listed building. 1940. Concrete, elongated hexagonal plan with flat roof. Single storey, partly below ground level. Elongated front with three rifle embrasures with a single machine gun embrasure to each chamfered side front, the rear having two rifle embrasures and a protected door. Part of Coquet Line. (2)

NZ 152 993. Lozenge-shaped pillbox.W of Felton, S of the River Coquet. Constructed of reinforced concrete 1940-1 as part of the Northern Command River Coquet Stop Line. Extant, condition good. (4a)

Located south-west of Felton, south of the River Coquet, just north of Catheugh Plantation. (4c)
