Netherton (Netherton with Biddlestone)

The earliest record of a settlement at Netherton is in 1296. A series of documents and surveys record details of the population from the 13th century onwards. No trace of the medieval village can be seen today, but it probably lay in the same position as the present village, on the banks of the Netherton Burn.
