North Whitehouse Roman period enclosure (Stannington)

Crop mark of 'native' settlement. Rectilinear single-ditched enclosure with internal divisions and traces of internal houses as circles. (1)

A sub-square enclosure of possible Iron Age or Roman date is visible as cropmarks on air photographs (1999) and is centred at NZ 1957 8143. It is defined by a single ditch, measures approximately 78m by 78m and has a possible entrance in its eastern side. Internal divisions are also visible as fragmentary ditches inside the enclosure.
