Meldon (Meldon)

This is the site of the shrunken medieval village of Meldon, which was first recorded in 1296. There were twelve houses here in 1666, but it then declined in size. A plan of about 1810 showed only the church, a farm and a few cottages. The site of the village is surrounded by areas of ridge and furrow.
