The excavation of a pipe trench, monitored by The Conservation Team of Northumberland County Council, on 8 November 1995 revealed in the stretch of the churchyard alongside the northern side of the chancel the sandstone block and mortar foundations at a depth of 0.15m to 0.20m below the ground level. One length of walling range parallel to the chancel wall and a possible line was located for a western side with rubble which may be evidence of a demolished or robbed wall.
It is thought that there may have been a possible later, previously unrecorded, extension added to the northern side of the church possibly dating to the late 18th century. It is also likely that the foundation may also represent a freestanding wall of some sort. (9)
