Meldon Lane House (Meldon)

[NZ 1135 8300] Rectangular soil mark. (1)

Aerial photographs show a rectangular enclosure measuring approx 65m x 60m. There are some internal features but they are too vague to identify.
The situation is on level pasture land approx 365 feet above sea level. The local field name is Big Field (from local enquiries). The only surface indication of this enclosure is a fragment of ploughed down bank 10m to 16m in width with a maximum height of 0.4m. The stretch of bank also includes a right-angled corner. The area corresponding with the interior of the enclosure is uneven but there are no feature that could be identified or surveyed.
There are insufficient features remaining to determine date or purpose of this enclosure.
The nearest water supply is the stream 50m to the west. (2)

There are no identifiable remains on the ground, the fragment of bank previously noted being now no more than a broad ground swelling. Nothing about the nature of the enclosure can be inferred from the photographs. (3)

Visible on aerial photographs. (4)(5)
