Throphill (Meldon)

NZ 125863 Deserted medieval village at Throphill. Nothing visible on aerial photographs (RAF 1946). (1)

There are no surface indications of depopulation at the position indicated, or at Throphill, which now consists of a single, but large, farmstead centred NZ 130858. (2)

Visible on an RAF 1947 aerial photograph are a series of enclosures in a linear form, surrounded to the north, east and west by ridge and furrow. There is also what appears to be a routeway that extends north west from this area of crop marks.(5)
