Axes (Ponteland)
Two polished dark grey whinstone Neolithic axes found at Ponteland. One is 5" long with an oblique cutting edge (a); the other is 10 1/4" long. Both in British Museum. (1)
Evans says the first axe was dug up in draining at Ponteland and Manby's list (b) gives the second as a 'Cambrian' axe from Ponteland Carr (having evidently seen it at the B.M.) Both axes therefore
presumably came from Ponteland Carr; this cannot be traces, but is possibly another name for 'Prestwick Carr' an extensive area centres NZ 190735. (2)
