Coal Working (Heddon-on-the-Wall)

An area of coal working including a number of pits: Dayhole Pit NZ 1490 6720; Fortune Coal Pit NZ 1480 6705 (both in Tyne and Wear); Humble Pit NZ 1415 6670; Gee Pit NZ 1415 6655; Fences Pit NZ 1405 6650; Mary Pit NZ 1420 6640; Fans Pit 1440 6670. (1)

Post medieval coal mining sites are visible as earthworks on air photographs, centred at NZ 1465 6662. Three areas have disturbance, spoil heaps and some have shafts and are covered in trees on 1992 photography. (2)

Largely in Newcastle upon Tyne. (3)
