Milecastle 14 (Heddon-on-the-Wall)
This is the probable site of a milecastle on Hadrian's Wall. Its remains can still be seen as a low earthwork on a small hill west of Rudchester. It was excavated by archaeologists in 1946 and again in 2000. They found that the walls of the milecastle were heavily damaged with only fragments surviving. It had also been damaged by ploughing. This is a Scheduled Monument protected by law.
