Horseshoe Rock (Whitton and Tosson)
(NZ 05119921) Horseshoe marked stone. (1)
154 yards north west from the last (NZ 09 NE 4) a much smaller rock shows a series of single cups enclosed in grooves forming a rough kind of horseshoe pattern, which has given its name to the rock. (2)
The rock concerned is level with the ground and measures approximately 2.5m x 1m. The !horseshoe! shaped mark mentioned by authority (2), enclosing 16 cups, may be intended to represent a phallus. Other markings on the rock include two cups with single rings, one cup with double ring, several single cups and an incised duct. (3)
