Kidlandlee unenclosed settlement (Netherton with Biddlestone)

NT 911091: Earthworks, composed of; house platforms, four unenclosed round houses, lynchets and a field system were discovered by aerial photography and field walking in 1980 at Kidlandlee Dean. Also insubstantial remains of a small rectangular building, possibly a sheiling, was recorded. Surveyed at 1:1250. (1)

NT 911091. Kidlandlee Dean 1, unenclosed settlement. (2)

Excavation in 2005 concentrated on one of the houses, revelaing stone platform material and a low stone bank forming the base of a house wall. The trench was covered by evidence of decayed turf walling. Finds included later prehistoric pottery, broken glass bead, whetstone and broken polisher. A Late Iron Age date is suggested for this post-abandonment assemblage. (3)
