Round Cairn (Matfen)

(NZ 03697238) Tumulus. (1)

(Probably applies). Near Matfen Low Hall there formerly stood a tumulus in which were discovered two cists containing cremations. (2)

A truncated earthen mound 16m in diameter, and 0.8m high, now turf-covered. Published survey (25 inch) correct. (3)

A Bronze Age round barrow is visible as an earthwork on air photographs at NZ 0369 7238. It is extant on the latest 1980 Ordnance Survey vertical photography. (6b)
