Round barrow on Grindstone Law (Whittington)

(NZ 00357326) Tumulus. (1)

A tumulus of earth and stones 40ft in diameter, and 4ft high, on the south side of the camp (NZ 07 SW 2) was excavated on June 14th 1860 and found to contain a long cist with two inhumations. The mound was originally surrounded by a circle of large boulders, of which only two remain. (2)

Dimensions as noted by Hodgson. No trace of a kerb survives, and little stone is apparent in mutilations caused by the intrusion of a water tank. Surveyed at 1:2500. (3)

Condition unchanged. (4)
