Possible Roman Fortlet (Belsay)
Roman fortlet on the route of a suspected Roman road, the Rothley Road from Whitchester near Rudchester to the west of Selby's Cove in the Simonside Hills. The fortlet is in excellent condition and measures c.47 yards by 36 yards (43m by 33m). The entrance is visible on the southern side and stonework on the north west corner is clearly visible. The Roman road can be seen descending to the fortlet from the plantation called Sharp Law (NZ 074769). The road leaves the fortlet to the west and zig zags down a cliff. (1)
