Bronze Age dagger (Prudhoe)

A small middle Bronze Age-late Bronze Age dagger was found by the pupils of Bebside Modern County School, Blyth, in a load of gravel, from Mickley-on-Tyne (NZ 077613) deposited at the school in connection with building operations. The absence of rivet holes, and the substitution of notches in the sides of the butt, show its affinities with Bronze Age rapiers and swords. (1)

[Area NZ 07276315] This is the only gravel pit in Mickley details of load destination are not kept. (a) The dagger on show in the Blackgate Museum, Newcastle upon Tyne. (2)

Bronze Age dagger, slender blade, notched at the end, 211mm long. In Museum of Antiquities, Newcastle 1950.5. (3)
N10123
