A group of three fields, lying close to the south bank of the River Tyne, are the source off early Mesolithic to late Neolithic flints. Over 1000 flints were discovered over four years, between about 1976 and 1980, along the route of a pipeline, mainly confined to an area of sandy gravel overlying clay. Further flints have been found in this area in the 1980s.
